Donna A. Caudell
Mom of 3, wife to a wonderful guy, and educator for more than 30 years as a teacher, counselor, and college professor.
- Teacher - 7 Years - High School and Middle School
- Counselor - 22 Years - High School and Elementary School
- College Professor - 10+ years - Counseling & Psychology Human
All of my “official” credentials are listed below, but I’d like to let you know a little about my personal educational journey. Having worked as an educator for over 29 years, my passion is to help students find the right path for them. It is so important that parents and students understand that there are many ways to reach your goals!
My journey began by entering Technical School right after high school. I spent a year becoming an LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse). I used this career skill to work my way through college – making more than I would have at a typical college job. I entered college planning to complete my RN, BSN. During my freshman year, the college changed their nursing program and the new changes would have required that I attend summer school. Since I had to work to pay for college, that wasn’t part of my plan.
At a friend’s urging, I (reluctantly) took a Home Economics Education class and found my passion – teaching! I finished my degree anxious to enter the classroom. As is typical with education, I was not able to get a job right after college, so I worked as an LPN in Labor and Delivery, IV Therapy, and Surgery for two years waiting for a job opening. With some networking, I was finally able to get a classroom job. Loved it!!! I taught high school and middle school for seven years. My students and I had great time learning and many of my students from those years keep in contact.
I went back for my Master’s in Guidance and Counseling in 1991 and worked as an elementary Guidance Counselor for 11 years. I learned a great deal from my wonderful elementary students. They are loving, open, and so very honest.
When a high school counseling job opened, I returned to the high school level and have been there since. I truly love helping students figure out what they want to do after school and assisting them in finding the best route for them.
I’ve since gone back to school, finishing my Educational Specialist degree in Leadership and went on to finish my doctorate. Never in a million years would I have thought this this is where I’d be when I entered technical school (not that many years ago :-). I’ve learned that keeping your options open and following your heart can take you in directions you may have never previously considered!!
